Why Insects Around a Wound Matter
Open or heavily irritated skin can attract insects, particularly when there is moisture, blood, drainage, or exposed tissue. Their presence does not by itself identify the underlying medical condition, but insects around a wound can increase contamination and make proper wound care even more important.
A person should avoid attempting to remove insects from a wound using household chemicals, pesticides, or other irritating substances. The area should instead be protected and evaluated by an appropriate healthcare professional.
