I Opened Mom’s Clogged Pipes—and Discovered What She Was Hiding
After spending a year abroad, I returned to my mother’s house and immediately noticed something strange. The kitchen faucet worked, but the sink would not drain at all. Mom had been carrying dirty dishes into the bathroom for weeks, yet every time I offered to fix the blockage, she became nervous and begged me to leave it alone.
Her behavior made no sense. Two weeks later, while she was out shopping, I finally removed the pipes beneath the sink. I expected grease, food scraps, or an old utensil. Instead, a small waterproof pouch slid onto the floor.
Inside were photographs, bank statements, and several letters addressed to my mother. The statements showed regular payments from an account belonging to my late father—an account I had never known existed. The letters explained everything.
She had clogged the sink intentionally by sealing the section around the pouch. She was embarrassed to admit what she had done and afraid I would be angry for keeping the account secret.
